283 The Impact of Augmented Reality Laparoscopic Simulator in Improving Performance Metrics in General Surgical Trainees

Abstract Aim To assess the impact of simulated laparoscopic trainers on improving surgical trainees’ technical ability in completing a appendicectomy by measuring effect completion time and distance travelled with standard instruments. Method Six CT1 (early-stage) trainees little prior operative exposure were selected from North-West England Deanery to perform x10 exercises Augmented Reality Laparoscopic Simulator (LapAR™), interspersed x3 Lapass exercises. Metrics including ‘Time completion’ ‘Distance travelled’ collected simulators analysed. Results Repeated appendicectomies LapAR™ improved performance for 100% trainees, an average 55% (Regression coefficient -0.65) 75% improvement 39% (Coefficient -2.67). Improvement instrument smoothness, acceleration ambidexterity also observed. Conclusions use has all metrics most proves be invaluable tool training.
